Europe’s Leading Academic Tourist Attraction Winner 2025

Home to Ireland’s greatest cultural treasure, the Book of Kells, and Trinity Trails guided walking tours, Trinity College Dublin was celebrated for delivering world class visitor experiences in its historic city-centre campus.

22 October 2025 – Trinity College Dublin has been named Europe’s Leading Academic Tourist Attraction at the prestigious World Travel Awards, cementing its position as one of the continent’s best visitor destinations and Ireland’s top cultural attraction.

Trinity triumphed over some of the world’s most iconic universities, including The Sorbonne (France), University of Cambridge (England), University of Oxford (England), University of Glasgow (Scotland), and University of Salamanca (Spain). The Book of Kells Experience at Trinity College Dublin was also shortlisted as a finalist for Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction award.

World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries. Today, the World Travel Awards brand is recognised globally as the ultimate hallmark of industry excellence.

The award recognises Trinity’s commitment to delivering exceptional visitor experiences across its city centre campus in Dublin. Founded in 1592, Trinity College Dublin is Ireland’s oldest university, and home to its greatest cultural treasure, the Book of Kells. A precious 9th century manuscript, containing the four Gospels of the New Testament, the Book is on display as part of the Book of Kells Experience.

The recently launched Trinity Trails are the official guided walking tours of the 47 acre city centre campus, led by expert student and alumni guides. Departing from the Bell Tower in Front Square, visitors enjoy a 45-minute trail, exploring and discovering Trinity’s hidden gems. During Summer months, visitors can also experience a unique opportunity to stay within the walls of the historic 16th century campus. Guest rooms are available to book throughout June, July and August.

Drew Duggan, Head of Tourism at Trinity College Dublin, welcomed the announcement saying:

We are deeply honoured to be recognised as Europe’s Leading Academic Tourist Attraction. Trinity is a truly unique destination, and we are honoured to welcome visitors each day from all corners of the globe.

This award is a testament to the dedication of our teams across the Book of Kells Experience, Trinity Trails, Summer Accommodation, Trinity Gift Shop and Events, who are committed to creating a world class experience for everyone who visits.

We were in fantastic company in both of our nominated categories, and this win is hugely positive for Dublin and Ireland.
