As Ireland’s cultural sector begins to emerge from lockdown, the Book of Kells and Old Library team is thrilled to be re-opening Monday 10 August 2020.
While our team is truly excited at the prospect of welcoming the public through our exhibition’s doors once again, visitor safety remains our number one priority.  We are proud to have received the Fáilte Ireland Covid-19 Safety Charter and we have introduced safety features designed to make your visit as pleasurable as possible, while limiting the spread of Covid-19.
Our carefully revised visitor experience now includes reduced capacity and timed, ticketed entry. This means that the coming weeks will be a wonderful time to visit, providing a more relaxed opportunity to see some of the Old Library’s gems, such as the Brian Boru Harp and the Irish Proclamation. We kindly encourage visitors to wear a protective face covering during their visit and we have also made the wearing of face coverings mandatory among our team members. Contact surfaces are cleaned regularly and hand sanitiser is available at regular intervals throughout the exhibition. Social distancing will be carefully monitored as visitors travel through the Old Library and a one-way system is in operation. Where possible, we ask our visitors to use contactless payment.
The Old Library’s extraordinary collection of over 250,000 ancient texts demonstrates humanity’s ability to endure adversity and flourish during even the most trying times. We have missed our many visitors from at home and abroad and hope to see you very soon as we embark on this new chapter together.
